"Carolina Caroline"

2025 * Not Rated * 1h 47m This one sure took me by surprise. I wasn't expecting a whole lot, based on the description. I thought it was going to be just another fun little heist movie. But I'd describe it as a modern day "Bonnie & Clyde" film with a lot more heart.

Caroline (Samara Weaving) has a menial job in a service station/mini-mart. One day she looks on as a short-change artist Oliver (Kyle Gallner) cons the cashier. It's basically for a small amount of money, but she's intrigued. She ends up following him and they become partners in crime. Oliver teaches her all his tricks and at first it's just minor cons. Eventually,  they start robbing banks and before you know it, there's a manhunt out to capture them.

Caroline initially just wants to track down her estranged mom in South Carolina, but her ultimate goal is to leave the country and never return. I thought the acting was great, especially from Weaving. She pours her heart out a couple times in the film and was thoroughly convincing. I don't think I've seen her in anything before, but I'll have to look into other films of hers.
