"All Summers End"

2017 * TV-14 * 1h 30m  This is not your typical coming-of-age, teen romance film. It's quite a bit darker and will take you by surprise. I had no idea what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially because of the remarkable performances by the two leads, Kaitlyn Dever and Tye Sheridan.

The film starts out with Conrad as an adult (Pablo Schreiber), reminiscing about the events that took place when he was a 16-year old kid.  He and a couple of his buddies decide to pull a prank by driving around and stealing a bunch of garden statues on the 4th of July. Young Conrad (Sheridan) is starting a relationship with Grace Turner (Dever), a young girl his age. When the trio swipes a flower pot from her front porch, her older brother spots them in action, he hops in his car and chases after them.

While in hot pursuit, he happens to hit a deer and is severely injured. While Conrad wants to send for help, his two buddies think it's better to ditch it and if they don't tell anyone, they'll get away Scott free. As his relationship with Grace heats up, his conscience starts nagging him. You can almost feel the pain he's going through. I thought Sheridan did an amazing job, and think he's going to become a major talent. I look forward to seeing what he does next. And Ms. Dever isn't too shabby either.

I've read some reviews that panned the film. I have to disagree with them. I thought it was quite well done and delivered a powerful message.

Note to parents: There's some mild swearing and one tasteful scene of teen sex.

3.5 out of 5 stars
