Pretty scary movie. Based on a Steven King short story. The acting is great. I won't give anything away. Just watch this movie if you want to be creeped out for Halloween!

"OtherLife"

Sci-Fi at its best. This film is very well done, with great visuals, acting and a plot twist I sure didn't see coming. The story is about Ren, a researcher and computer coding genius who discovers a way to simulate exciting adventures into ones mind through chemicals. Subjects can experience a weeks vacation skiing in the Alps in just a few minutes of real time. When her company is in need of a cash infusion to launch the product, her partner goes behind her back and teams up with the Corrections Department.  He sells them on the concept of a prison sentence that while seems to the recipient like a year in solitary, it only lasts a minute or two. This relieves the system of overcrowding, and the convict is rehabilitated in mere minutes. That's all I can say without giving away too much.

"Sticky Notes"

Another little gem of an indie film. A young woman, Athena (Rose Leslie), gets a call from her father (Ray Liotta), who's dying of cancer. She interrupts her dancing career, and the beginning of a relationship, to come home and take care of him. He's a cranky, eccentric, but humorous old fart who leaves sticky notes all around his home with advice for her. The cinematography is outstanding and I especially enjoyed the dreamy etherial soundtrack. Excellent acting all around.

"The Bar"

This is one unpredictable and intense movie. It starts with several strangers converging on a small bar in Madrid. When a couple of people leave, they get shot by a sniper. So they lock the doors and then things get really intense. It's officially called a comedy/drama, but there was really nothing funny about this movie. Watch it until the end. Very well done, and the actors are totally believable.

"Welcome To Me"

This looked like it was going to be a light-hearted film. And while it did have some humorous moments, it turned out to be quite a dark film. Kristen Wiig plays a bipolar young woman, who decides to take herself off her meds. She then proceeds to win a ton of money playing the lottery. She decides to star in her own tv show where she acts out various aspects of her troubled past. Then things get dark. Wiig does a remarkable job. Great film, just don't count on a lot of laughs.

"Like Crazy"

Another one of my favorite themes: road movies. This is an Italian movie about a couple of misfits who are in a mental institution in Tuscany. One is an older woman who has a lot of connections with the Italian upper crust, and can't stop talking. The other is a younger, quiet woman who has a ton of issues. They escape the institution where they're being treated and then the fun begins. Both actors are wonderful. as is the dialogue, and the beautiful scenery!

"Drone"

A CIA operative (Sean Bean), who orchestrates drone strikes in Pakistan, accidentally wipes out a family while taking out an enemy. He lives in a wealthy suburb and one day a Pakistani gentleman visits him, under the premise of  buying his recently deceased father's sailboat. This is where the story gets interesting, and pretty intense. It's a subtle, edgy thriller.
